How does it work?
The practice is a gentle fingertip touch,
noninvasive healing technique performed on a fully clothed patient lying on a massage table for fifty
minutes creating an overall calming effect. The craniosacral system surrounds the brain and the spinal
cord, creating a core rhythm in the body that is transmitted along fascial planes throughout the entire
body, all the way to the extremities. This rhythm is like our heart beating or breathing.
The practitioner gently moves the
skull bones stimulating the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes the surfaces of the brain
and the spinal cord. This restores a natural rhythm to the central nervous system. Any trauma,
physical or emotional, recent or past, which we have experienced, will be stored in the fascia as
traumatic memory. Their release in this process facilitates physical and psycho-emotional healing.
Craniosacral therapy actually restores the body's own innate healing power, the body's wisdom.
If each person's body is map
reflecting his/her life experiences, your body is your life story, made visible. As infants we are
spontaneous, alive and expressive. As we mature, life impacts upon us, often in traumatic ways.
Many body ailments are actually expressions of painful, repressed childhood memories and often
birthing traumas. Our survival makes us defensive, which in our body is manifest as tense muscles
and shallow breathing. With less breathing there is less oxygen and less energy and feeling.
Different
energy blocks create different physical realities and because the nervous system (i.e. the craniosacral
system) regulates all other organs, any impairment in its function can and will affect your overall health
and ability to feel free and joyful. A blocked throat or jaw will keep us from crying out or screaming
whether for pain or joy. Humiliation or fear of it will curtail communication. Blocked shoulder and
arms inhibit our desire to grab or hit, but also exhibit our deep need to be hugged and held. Waist blockages
restrict our yelling or crying as well as our breathing. Tight leg and foot muscles curb our
rebelliousness and reduce our ability to stand up for ourselves. Blockage in the pelvis,
connected to the lower back, buttock and legs is connected to sexual dysfunction. This
tension dulls our sexuality and causes lower back pain.
It requires much determination,
courage and honesty to let go of these blocks. The release of sadness, anger, or loss that a body
contains will renew a person's energy and aliveness. Relax and rejuvenate with this mind/body/spirit therapy.
